"Therapeutic Efforting and Compulsive Caretaking" - How the NARM® approach supports therapists in achieving more by doing less

Efforting, trying hard, and taking too much responsibility for the therapeutic process are probably the most widespread countertransference issues that therapists struggle with.

Because they want their clients to make progress, many therapists end up putting a lot of pressure on themselves. They somehow feel or believe it is their responsibility to make the clients feel better. Because of that, they try and work harder than they need to, and their work becomes more demanding and exhausting than necessary.

In this workshop, we are going to examine this specific and common countertransference issue and its underlying dynamics. Using the framework of the NARM® approach, we will explore how we can feel more relaxed and trusting in our work with clients.

Perhaps surprisingly, we will come to see that we become a lot more effective by putting less pressure on ourselves.
