Podcast: Lucija Čevnik on wounds and scars in the mother-daughter relationship

The topic of this week's Sensa's podcast is the mother-daughter relationship. Host Dr Metka Kuhar hosted Lucija Čevnik, PhD in sociology, professor, specialist in Lacanian psychoanalysis, publicist, mentor, counsellor and author of the bestselling books Mum to Daughter and Daughter to Mum.

They talked mainly about the wounds and scars in the mother-daughter relationship, which is both the link between generations and the first link that connects the child to the world.

They tried to find answers to the questions:

  • How can daughters heal from the effects of trauma when our relationship with the mother has been shaped by it?
  • How can daughters free themselves from negative emotions and patterns in relationship with the mother?
  • How can daughters objectively evaluate their mother's role in their lives?
  • How can daughters separate from their mothers in a healthy way and develop their own identity?
  • How can we leave the past behind, how can we free ourselves from anger, resentment and judgement of the mother - the victim?
  • How can mothers not pass on their own trauma to their daughters?
  • Can mothers really only give what they have received or can they go beyond?
  • How can mothers free themselves from the self-judgement, the guilt, the guilty conscience that makes us feel like we are not a good mother?
